Know a Non-Profit Doing Great Work? Here's How to Nominate Them

Who Can Be Nominated?

Know a local nonprofit doing incredible work? Bring their story into the room.

One of the most exciting parts of 100+ Women Who Care Duluth Area is discovering the organizations making a difference right here in our own community.

Every eligible attendee has the opportunity to nominate one local nonprofit for consideration at our giving event. From the eligible organizations nominated, three names will be randomly drawn. We'll hear their stories, cast our votes, and one organization will receive our collective gift.

Before submitting a nomination, please review the guidelines below.

What Organizations Are Eligible?

To be considered, an organization must:

• Be a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in good standing.

• Be able to provide two years of tax returns for review.

• Be able to provide charitable tax receipts for donations.

• Serve and make a meaningful impact within the Duluth area and surrounding communities.

• Be nonpolitical in purpose. Political organizations, campaigns, candidates, and partisan organizations are not eligible.

• Meet the additional eligibility requirements of 100+ Women Who Care Duluth Area.

  
  

Our Giving Stays Local

This is especially important to us.

The purpose of 100+ Women Who Care Duluth Area is to make an impact right here at home. National or international organizations generally will not be considered when the funds would leave our community.

However, a local chapter or program affiliated with a larger national organization may be eligible when the gift will be used specifically for a project, program, or need serving people in the Duluth area.

The guiding principle is simple: The funds must stay in our community.

What About Faith-Based Organizations?

Faith-based organizations may be eligible when the program or services being considered are available to the broader community regardless of religious affiliation or belief. For example, a faith-based organization operating a food shelf that serves anyone in need could qualify. An organization or program whose services are restricted to members of a particular faith, or whose primary purpose is religious worship or advancement of a particular religion, would not be eligible.

One Attendee. One Nomination.

Each eligible attendee may have one nonprofit nominated for consideration at a time. Choose an organization you believe in, one whose work you would be excited to introduce to the women in the room.

What If Several Women Nominate the Same Nonprofit?

That's a great sign but it doesn't increase the organization's odds of being drawn.

Each eligible nonprofit goes into the hat only once.

If five women nominate the same organization, that organization still receives one entry, not five.

When multiple women nominate the same nonprofit, we encourage them to connect and work together on the organization's nomination and potential presentation.

This keeps the drawing fair and gives every nominated nonprofit an equal chance to be selected.

If You Nominate It, Be Ready to Tell Its Story

If your nonprofit is one of the three names drawn, someone must be prepared to give a three-minute presentation about the organization.

You may present the nonprofit yourself, or you may arrange for a representative from the organization to be present and speak.

Your three minutes should help the room understand:

• What does the organization do?

• Who does it serve?

• What need does it address in our local community?

• How would our collective gift make a difference?

Don't worry about creating a perfect presentation. We want to hear the story, understand the need, and learn about the impact.

Three Names. One Vote. One Collective Gift.

From all eligible nominated organizations, three nonprofits are randomly drawn for consideration at the event.

After hearing each three-minute presentation, the women in attendance vote for the organization they believe should receive that evening's collective gift.

Each voting attendee gets one vote.

The nonprofit receiving the most votes receives the collective donation.

Everyone Participates in the Giving

100+ Women Who Care works because everyone in the room participates.

Every attendee-including representatives attending on behalf of a nominated nonprofit is expected to contribute the $100 event donation upon entry.

Those individual $100 gifts come together to create something much bigger:

100+ women. $100 each. $10,000+ for one local nonprofit.

Thanks to the support of our event sponsors, the attendee donations can go directly toward the nonprofit selected that evening.

Before You Nominate

We encourage you to do a little homework before submitting an organization.

Confirm that the nonprofit meets our eligibility requirements and that you or someone from the organization will be prepared to speak if its name is drawn.

Most importantly, choose an organization whose impact you would be proud to bring into the room.
